Sometimes, the most important part of the new piece already exists.

It might be a beautiful pearl, an unusually shaped gemstone, an inherited diamond or simply a stone that holds meaning for its owner. Rather than trying to fit that stone into an existing jewellery design, our jewellers can develop a custom design around the individual piece.

Its shape, size, proportions and character all help guide the design.

A Pearl Given a New Setting

This custom pearl ring is a beautiful example of that process.

The pearl became the focal point for a completely new ring design, with the surrounding gold created to complement its generous proportions and soft, natural appearance.

Rather than choosing a conventional pearl ring setting, the design was developed specifically around this particular pearl.

The wide gold band gives the finished ring a strong contemporary presence, while the flowing details through the shoulders lead naturally towards the pearl. A combination of polished and softly textured surfaces adds another dimension to the design without competing with the centrepiece.

The result is unmistakably individual.

It is also a wonderful example of what can be achieved when jewellery remodelling begins with the piece you want to preserve rather than the jewellery you want to replace.

From the First Sketch to the Finished Piece

For us, one of the most rewarding stages of custom jewellery design is seeing an idea progress from a simple hand-drawn sketch into a finished piece of jewellery.

A sketch doesn't need to capture every tiny detail of the final piece. Its purpose is to establish the concept — the proportions, shape and way the different elements will work together.

From there, the design can be discussed and refined before our jewellers begin bringing it to life.

For a customer, seeing the finished piece alongside those first drawings can be particularly special. What began as a few lines on paper becomes something substantial, wearable and completely personal.
